A part of the Novellus project. This image depicts a Xarthian protrusion from the planet. The Xarthus is a dark energy natural to the world. Man holds a strange relationship with the Xarthus; it is known to be a cause of evil, but man’s very soul is given life through its energy. Xarthian protrusions are common, as the planet detests the dark energy and seeks to expel it, however a protrusion of this size is sure to bring ill fate to those who live nearby. This CG composition was created in Blender and uses 500,000 particles of grass as well as 50,000 dandelions to provide a lush field. The path was weight painted using pebbles as particles. The rock itself is a photo scanned model. The shadows that appear on across the image are created from a treeline image as a plane. The background is also an image as a plane. This final render utilizes the cycles engine with 85 samples; this number of samples greatly reduces noise in the image.
