This render of the Earth from space was created in Blender. The Earth itself was created using a sphere with a custom material created using NASA’s albedo map of the Earth, NASA’s bump map of the Earth, NASA’s cloud map of the Earth, and NASA’s ocean mask of the Earth. Seriously, NASA could not be nicer to 3D artists! The background utilizes an HDR of space. This image was then edited in Blender’s image editor to, among other things, color shift the Earth towards blue, create the Earth’s atmospheric glow, and to create the bloom effect on the sun. The blue color scheme creates a slightly creepy image of the Earth from space.
