A part of the Novellus project. Heart of Xarthus is an ambient score for Xarthian Protrusion. This score, produced in Ableton Live, focuses heavily on the Xarthain leitmotif of D# to D (also A# to A in variation). Xarthus uses this leitmotif due to the unsettling nature of moving down a half-step. However ending on D or A, as most phrases do, does provide a somewhat consonant resolution which serves as a reminder of the Xarthus within us. The heartbeat-esque percussion is a detuned bongo drum hit which is sidechained to a whole lotta reverb. The droning and evolution of this heartbeat sound implies life in the Xarthus, a concept that should both spark curiosity and terrify. As this is an ambient score, chords are kept as triads and follow the melody so as not to create too dominant a piece.
